Task 11: Creating Pace With Cross Cutting

Our task was to film and edit a short sequence in which two characters are approaching each other from different locations, However, in my group there was only myself and one other so we had to alternate. In our sequence we filmed one character approaching a 'bomb' and hurrying to get there in time rather than the character approaching a another person. The sequence starts of at a fairly slow pace and then gets faster as the character nears the 'bomb.' At the beginning of the sequence, the shots are fairly long to show that the character is in a relaxed mood to start of with, but as the end of the sequence nears, the shots become short and fast with constant cross-cutting between the character, the current time and the 'bomb.' This creates pace and tension. Also the use of music create pace and tension. At the begging of the sequence the music starts of quite slow and is at a normal volume, as the character gets closer to the 'bomb,' the music gets faster and louder.
